An emblem for the Manuel Canovas beach-wear collections, this design takes cue from St. Barth’s Port of Gustavia, a haven for those seeking a tropical respite. This jewel of the French West Indies evokes images of opulent relaxation, balanced with rustic charm amid sun-tanned seashells, fiery red coral reefs, and magnificent turquoise waters for leisurely marine pursuits. Inspired by the elegant and romantic French “Toile de Jouy” fabric, this monochromatic design was modernized by Manuel Canovas via reinterpreting original themes – mythology, exoticism, architecture, countryside – with strong and contrasted color schemes of Geranium Red and Cafe au Lait. From the 2006 textile collection, this blooming magnolia design evokes lingering memories of lavish villas on the isle of Capri, sumptuous verdant gardens, languid afternoons and the deep enveloping blue of the Mediterranean. Reminiscent of vibrant 1970's summer nights on the quays of St. Tropez where the famous reigned within their sumptuous villas by the sea, this design has had several successful versions in the last three decades. A tribute to his study of botany and fascination with florals, Manuel Canovas created this vivid motif as a contrasting dialogue between his love of nature and his admiration for geometry. Complete fascination with the Orient gave birth to the Katsura design where the use of yellow is a nod to the emperor's dress. The intricate Japanese Water Iris pays tribute to Mr. Canovas’s deep appreciation and love of the art of Japanese watercolor. He was enthralled by these exotic cultures and their use of symbolism and color palettes.
